UPDATE : Suspect ‘contained’ in Chippewa County after Social Media Threat to “Start Killing Kids” at U of M

UPDATE: U of M says the Chippewa County Sheriff located the suspect “and have him contained in their county,” so activities on campus have resumed normal operations.
Authorities “contain” a man suspected of issuing a social media threat to shoot people on the University of Minnesota campus.
The suspect, 41-year-old Joseph Rongstad of Watson, Minnesota, was located at a home in Chippewa County.
Rongstad’s post on Facebook said ” Here we go AMERICA, I’m heading out from Watson, Minnesota to the U of M Minneapolis to start killing kids.”
Rongstad is a former mayor of Watson and his criminal history includes burglary, a felony drug conviction and a civil commitment for being mentally ill.
The U of M says activities on campus have resumed normal operations.
MINNEAPOLIS (KVRR/KFGO) — University of Minnesota police issuing a warning this morning that a man threatened to shoot people on its Twin Cities campus.

Students are still on break, so there are very few on campus.
There are many staff members and faculty on campus.
Employees were urged to work from home.
U of M Police say there was no indication to suggest that Rongstad was anywhere near campus.
Extra officers are on campus as a precaution.
