Miriley Simon Emerging As Key Bench Player for NDSU Women’s Basketball

West Fargo Girls Basketball Product Proving Herself in the Summit League

FARGO, N.D. — Miriley Simon continues to develop into a key contributor off the bench for NDSU Women’s Basketball.  The West Fargo product was leading the Packers to a run to the State Playoffs last season and now she’s been playing key minutes at the D1 level. She played 20 minutes Thursday night scoring 6 points and pulling down 6 rebounds. Head Coach Jory Collins has seen steady development from Simon as she adjusts to the college game and grows into her role on the team.

“I think it’s just slowed down for her I think. We’ve talked about these freshman all year, it’s super sped up early and even the first game against Oral Roberts, just watching her she was just kinda had her head spinning. But she’s definitely slowed down. The decision making: not so rushed all the time and I think that just comes with game experience and the more they’ve played, the better feel they’ve gotten,” Simon said.

“High School, not as talented as college… I mean .. even Division One; this is a big deal. This is the real deal. Just know that everyone is faster, bigger, stronger, so that’s what you have to do; be bigger, faster stronger, just working hard, lifting, getting better everyday in practice, offense, defense, just all the things, and getting better each day and that helps for sure in the games,” said Coach Collins.

“It’s been fun. Basketball is a long season so just being able to increase my minutes so far on the year and my role has been bigger, going in for Drapes to give her a sub here and there but it’s been fun and I’m glad to be part of this team,” said Simon.
