Public Health offering resources to help those fighting smokeless tobacco addiction

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – Fargo Cass Public Health is encouraging smokeless tobacco users to quit during ‘Through with Chew’ week.

Smokeless tobacco and oral nicotine are harmful according to health officials as both contain a number of cancer-causing chemicals.

Smokeless tobacco can cause cancer of the mouth, gum disease and tooth loss. Public Health is offering a Break Away from Nicotine program to support those who are ready to quit.

“You don’t have to be perfect. It’s not that you have to stop and today is the day you never use again,” said Abby Lang, a community health educator. “There’s always going to be things that happen in your life that maybe cause you to have a setback. What we offer is that support to people. To really be that cheerleader.”
