Man Falls Off Sorlie Bridge After Welfare Check

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (KFGO/KVRR) – Grand Forks and East Grand Forks Police and Firefighters rescued a man who fell from the Sorlie Bridge onto the ice on the Red River.

Shortly after 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, a witness reported that a man had jumped over the railing and beneath the bridge walking on the support beams.

Police responded for a welfare check and talked to the man for some time in an attempt to get him off the beams. East Grand Forks Police issued an alert asking people to avoid the area during the incident.

The man was uncooperative with officers and fell from the beams and landed on the river ice but didn’t go through.

Firefighters ran onto the ice and pulled him to safety, He was taken by ambulance to Altru Hospital.

Police say the man’s injuries are not known at this time.
