Slight Delay In Work After 11th Street Underpass Groundbreaking in Moorhead
MOORHEAD, Minn. (KVRR) — The largest road project in Moorhead’s history is finally underway and already facing its first delay.
A groundbreaking was held Saturday for the 11th Street Underpass to go under BNSF lines between Center Avenue and 1st Avenue North.
Crews were going to start detours tomorrow but the weather has pushed those plans to Wednesday.
That is when First Avenue will close between 10th and 12th Streets and 11th Street will close from 2nd Ave North to Main Avenue.
Intersections at Center and Main will remain open to traffic.
Gov. Tim Walz said that projects like this are needed to keep up with economic and population growth.
“Folks up here have dealt with trains for 50 years blocking growth of a very dynamic area. This is the most important and basic function that government does, and I think listening to folks here today they get it,” said Walz.
The project is expected to be completed in 2026.
