Grand Forks man arrested after high-speed pursuit

GRAND FORKS (KVRR) – Two people were arrested following a high-speed pursuit in Grand Forks early Friday morning.

At about 12:30 AM a Grand Forks county Sheriff’s deputy observed a vehicle going over 80 mph in the 1700 block of South Washington St.

The deputy attempted to make a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled southbound.

After leading deputies through a residential neighborhood, the vehicle parked in an alley in the 100 block of Park Drive.

One passenger fled, while another, a juvenile, was arrested.

The driver, 21-year-old Elijah James Belgarde of Grand Forks, was arrested for fleeing law enforcement, driving under suspension, and reckless endangerment charges. He was also issued a citation for speeding.

The incident remains under investigation.
