INTERVIEW: TE Carter Zeller Commits to NDSU Football; Joins teammate LB Peder Haugo
TWO FARGO NORTH SPARTANS JOIN THE HERD TOGETHER; CONTINUE THEIR LONG RUN OF PLAYING TOGETHER.
FARGO, N.D. (KVRR)–On Wednesday, March 27, Fargo North Spartans Linebacker Carter Zeller announced on his Twitter (X) page that he has committed to play for the NDSU Bison football program. Zeller wrote. Zeller joins his former basketball and football teammate, Linebacker Peder Haugo who committed earlier this year. The two teammates won State Championships at Fargo North in basketball (2023) and football (2023). The two will now play together at NDSU to try and continue their championship ways.
INTERVIEW:
Carter Zeller was asked: “You’re the most recent Bison Football commit. What was your recruiting process like, who were you deciding between and why did you choose NDSU?
Zeller replied, “I had a few offers going into my junior year and mostly it was between Northern State, Bemidji and Augastana.” Zeller continued, “But in the back of my mind I was waiting for NDSU to see if they would say anything and my luck kind of turned out and they talked to me more. That’s when I made the decision to go [to NDSU].”
Peder Haugo was asked, “You committed a while ago and that was with head coach [Matt Entz]. “A new head coach comes in; you decide to stick around though. What was the decision process like? Because, I know a lot of guys decided to switch their commitment.”
Haugo replied, “You have seen NDSU’s status never really change when a coach has left or gone somewhere else.” Haugo continued, “So, when I knew that Entz was leaving, I knew the Athletic Director would find somebody to put [the team] in good hands. I feel that the success is going to continue to bloom for NDSU regardless of who the head coach because of what the program is and how it’s been for the longest time.”
Both Zeller and Haugo were then asked about playing together at the next level: “For the both of you guys, you played high school football and basketball together and won state titles, both in the city of Fargo. “Now you get to play at the FargoDome together. What’s it like to continue your playing careers together?”
Zeller replied,”It’s going to be pretty fun.” He continued saying, “It’s always fun practicing and playing with Peder… knowing what he can do and what accomplishments he can do and just how good he can make a team.”
Peder replied, “We’ve been playing together since, 4th or 5th grade basketball and having success ever since.” He continued saying, “I feel like it’s always been like a 3-4 person thing and me and Carter have always been in top of the class and just continuing to play with him just right across the street in front of the home crowd [at the FargoDome]. I feel like you couldn’t write it up any better.”
NDSU football opens their season against the Colorado Buffaloes August 31, 2024.
