NDSU Softball Hosts Series in March for First Time in D-1 Era

NDSU SWEPT ST. THOMAS IN THE 3-GAME SERIES THIS PAST WEEKEND.

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR)–It is the beginning of April. That is typically when NDSU Softball prepares to host their first home series, but this year, the weather cooperated with their schedule.

The Herd hosted the St. Thomas Tommies this past weekend in what was their first home series in the month of March in the Division I era. The Bison continued their trend of dominating home openers as well: At Tharaldson Park, they move to a perfect 5-0 and 28-2 overall in the programs history with their 4-0 win on Friday.

NDSU continued that dominance into Saturday’s double-header winning both games and sweeping the Tommies to move to 3-2 in conference play this season.

After the sweep, Head Coach Darren Mueller and senior infielder Anjolee Aguilar-Beaucage spoke on the historic March Series.

“It was great,” said Mueller. “I mean our team loved it. It was a chance to get off the road and get play at home in March. [That is] kind of a rare occurrence, but we’ll definitely take it if we can get the sweep like we did [this past weekend] and play like we did. So, it was nice to be at home.”

“I think it was really exciting for us,” said Aguilar-Beaucage. “It’s a little different coming from indoors, IPF or playing in other places. It was nice just to be in front of our home crowd and just [have the] advantage of playing on our home turf.”

The Bison now prepare to hit the road again to take on UNLV in Nevada before returning home to resume Summit League play against rival South Dakota State. The team says they just want to continue the momentum they built this past weekend.

“We talked a little bit about it after the game,” said Coach Mueller. “Some people didn’t get as many at bats this weekend as we’d like. Let’s build up the things that we did well, we really played well as a team. The pitching will be a little different [against UNLV] and probably get us little prepared for South Dakota State. I don’t know a whole lot about [UNLV] right now because I haven’t looked at much on them, but I think for us, you know, we know they’re a good program and let’s try to win that series just like another conference series… just a little bit further away.”

“I think learning how to play for each other and just passing the bat like we did,” said Aguilar-Beaucage. “Being happy for other people and just supporting each other no matter what.

The Bison will play a 3-game series with UNLV this weekend. A double-header Saturday, April 6, and a single game on Sunday at 2 P.M.
