Update: Fire destroys home near Christine, North Dakota; family safe

CHRISTINE, N.D. (KVRR-KFGO) –A fire destroyed a home near Christine, North Dakota, just off Highway 81.
The fire was reported around 3:45 a.m. Friday. When fire crews arrived on the scene, the parents and their two children had escaped the house unharmed, and had taken shelter in a farm building on the property.
The fire is thought to have started in the basement on the west side of the house.
The home, built in the late 1800s, had a metal roof that hindered firefighter’s efforts to extinguish the fire. Several pets were lost in the fire.
Christine Fire Chief Randy Monson says that while the home is a total loss, they are relieved that no one was harmed in the fire.
“Fire Marshall’s been here, done an inspection and they’ll be tearing it down soon. Just to finally get the fire put out.”
Christine firefighters were aided by firefighters from Abercrombie, Colfax, Walcott, and Kindred fire departments.
