Davies Girls Soccer: Eyes Set on Redemption
THE EAGLES HAVE LOST IN THE STATE TITLE GAME IN TWO OF THE LAST THREE SEASONS.
FARGO, N.D. (KVRR)–The Fargo Davies girls soccer team has been just short of their goal two of the last three years. In 2021, they fell to Minot in the State title game and a season ago, in 2023, they once again fell to the same opponent.
After losing to Minot in the State title game in two of the last three years, the Eagles are gearing up for their revenge tour. Already sitting at 1-0 on the season, Davies has every bit of motivation to reach the state title game again this year and win their first since going back-to-back in 2017 and 2018.
“When you have a bunch of people coming back that experienced [losing in the title game last] spring, especially at our home field, it is that next evolution for us as a team,” said Head Coach Nick Christianson. “These girls are trying to find that next little piece: what can we do a little bit better? What can we change? They are excited for the challenge for the year.”
Senior midfielder Madison Barnick is determined her team will return to glory this season.
“Obviously since we have made it [to the title game] and not won, we kind of are just taking it like, we want to change that,” said Barnick who was named to the All-State Tournament team for her performance in the 2023 tournament. “We are all staying pretty intense and putting a lot of work in during practice. Kind of just giving it our all.”
Davies returns a bulk of their roster, including All-State Tournament team member, midfielder Madison Barnick, along with several others. The team believes their overall returning experience will be able to bring them over the top.
“I just think that we are all very, you know, enthusiastic about coming into this year,” said senior goalie Kaia Davidson. “We all want another chance at the state title.”
Coach Christianson added on…
“All around we have a great core group of girls [returning],” said Christianson. “[And] we added in a couple new [players as well]. We are just excited for the group.”
Fargo Davies (1-0) will take on Fargo North on Thursday, April 11.
The State tournament is currently set for May 30-June 1 at Duane Carlson Stadium in Minot, N.D.
