Raising awareness on the sacrifices made by organ donors

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – April is National Donate Life Month, as a flag was raised at the Sanford Medical Center to commemorate those that are organ donors of the past and present. According to Sanford, there were over 1,900 children under the age of 18 in the U.S. that received a transplant in 2023.

Some of these transplants help with sight, kidney function and for those in need of a new heart. By showing the flag, medical experts hope it brings awareness to those in need of a transplant and honoring those that help.

“Our community, our staff. We all know what the donate life flag means. It’s extremely important to recognize and honor if it’s a patient who’s giving the gifts of life.” said Kirsten Frantsvog, a chaplain at Sanford Health.

Sanford Health says over 40 children under the age of 18 received a transplant in 2023 at their hospital.
