Rotary Clubs Work to Eradicate Polio

FARGO (KVRR) — Rotary Clubs in the F-M area are working together to eradicate polio.

The fundraising is part of an effort by Rotary International which has been working towards a polio-free world for nearly 40 years.

They distribute almost 40 million polio vaccines to kids around the world every year.

So far in 2024 there have only been 4 reported cases of polio, two in Pakistan and two in Afghanistan.

Rotary International’s PolioPlus chair talked about how the goal of ending polio has been able to unite people around the world.

“We work with whoever’s in charge. So right now, we find ourselves working in regions that are controlled by Taliban elements and had an opportunity to meet some of those folks. Ultimately, they’re with us. They love their children too. And they want to see polio end.”

F-M Rotarians are hosting a recital to raise money tonight at 7 at First Lutheran Church in Fargo.
