Lloyd Omdahl, Former North Dakota Lieutenant Governor, Has Died at 93

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (KVRR) — Tributes are coming in online from friends of Lloyd Omdahl.
North Dakota’s last Democrat to serve as Lieutenant Governor has died at the age of 93.
He served as lieutenant governor under Gov. George Sinner starting in 1987 after the death of Lt. Governor Ruth Meiers.
Sinner and Omdahl won re-election in 1988 and were the last Democrats to hold those seats in Bismarck.
Omdahl also served as North Dakota Tax Commissioner in the 1960s and made an unsuccessful run for Congress in 1976.
He was both an alumnus and professor at UND.
In his later years, Omdahl was a columnist for the Grand Forks Herald which reported that he died in a comfort care facility in Grand Forks.
His wife, Ruth, died last November in a memory care facility in Grand Forks at the age of 89.
