Fargo City Administrator discusses proposed changes to noise ordinance
FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — The Fargo City Administrator’s office held an open house Thursday to discuss proposed changes to the cities noise ordinance.
The proposed changes would alter the decibel levels allowed in Fargo, as well as altering the hours in which certain levels would be allowed.
Some community members in attendance said they were concerned about changes to the approval process for outdoor noise permits, as well as the lack of distinction for different types of street performers.
Fargo Police Captain Chris Helmick said that the proposed changes were meant to modernize the ordinance, and create more parity in enforcement.
“The second thing that we’re trying to do is bring some parity between the street performers. The bars, the restaurants and other sources of sound that come into the downtown area. I know that’s been an issue in the last 4 months and we’re trying to rectify some of that”
Helmick said that while they have recieved complaints about noise from vehicles, these changes would not address those concerns.
