Klobuchar, local law enforcement discuss new FEND off Fentanyl Act

MINNEAPOLIS (KVRR) — Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar and members of law enforcement held a press conference Friday to discuss the new FEND off Fentanyl Act.
The act places sanctions on cartels and companies that manufacture precursor chemicals used in the production of fentanyl.
It also requires social media companies to report any drug deals on their platforms to local law enforcement.
Klobuchar says that while local law enforcement officers work hard to remove fentanyl from their communities, they can’t take on these large cartels alone.
“Morehead police department or Duluth, as good as they are, isn’t going to be able to take on the international cartel from their offices. And so that’s why this bill is so important. Because it just gives more power and authority and ability for the feds working with locals to go after this and sanctioning them in terms of getting all the money.”
Moorhead Police Chief Shannon Monroe said in the press conference that fentanyl overdoses are on track to increase from last year to this year in Moorhead.
