Sanford offers free skin screenings for Melanoma Monday

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — Sanford Dermatology and Laser Clinic offered free skin screenings today for Melanoma Monday.

The event aims to raise awareness of skin cancer, which kills 20 people across the U.S. every day.

Siri Thaden says that melanoma is treatable, if it is detected early, and that it is important to take precautions to protect your skin especially during the summer months.

So SPF 30 or above every single day. Even on cloudy days, overcast days, sometimes people don’t think they need sunscreen those days, but the sun and those UV rays still do come through. Making sure that you’re wearing hats that you have that protective clothing that’s out there.

If you’re having trouble scheduling an appointment with your dermatologist, Sanford says that your primary care provider can do the initial screening.
