Noem banned from all tribal lands in South Dakota

SOUTH DAKOTA, (CNN/KVRR) – South Dakota governor Kristi Noem is now banned from all tribal lands in her home state.

A Tuesday vote by the Flandreau Santee Sioux tribe executive council bars the republican governor from its reservation.

That vote book-ended a ripple effect of nine tribes with reservations that stretch into South Dakota moving to prevent Noem from setting foot on their land.

The bannings started after comments Noem made earlier this year.

During a town hall, she said tribal leaders were profiting off drug cartels in her state and prioritizing those cartels over children on their reservations.

Noem has since doubled down on saying Mexican drug cartels are rampant on Native American reservations in South Dakota.

She did not directly address the ban in a Wednesday statement, but said she hopes to work with tribal leaders going forward.
