Spuds Boys Lacrosse Eyes Fourth Straight Section Title
MOORHEAD ENTERS THE SECTION 8 TOURNAMENT AS THE 1-SEED.
MOORHEAD, Minn. (KVRR)–A year removed from capturing their third straight section 8 crown and State Tournament birth, the Moorhead Spuds boys lacrosse team is looking for number four in a row.
In every sport there is turnover with graduating seniors and the Spuds dealt with that like every other team. But not every team can sustain the success the Moorhead lacrosse program has over the past 3 seasons and now a fourth as they head into the section tournament as the number 1 seed.
Head coach Logan Wiemken shares credit for this continued success.
“The developments from the youth on up,” said Wiemken. “The youth has done a fantastic job developing athletes for us. Then we continue that in house. For instance, our Junior Varsity team went 12-0 with a goal differential of 144 to 15. We just take a lot of pride in developing our athletes and having that next man available.”
As the spuds now aim for their fourth straight state tournament appearance, the team looks to improve upon last year’s consolation title.
“We want to make a little bit more noise this year,” said Wiemken. “We have never made it past that first round with a win, so I think that is a big goal for us this year. I mean, obviously we want to win a state championship, but let’s start with the baby step. We want to get past the first round of state.”
The players on this team believe their experience is what what will take them over the top this postseason.
“Just work hard at practice,” said senior attacker Joel Egerdahl. “Have everything we do at practice transfer into our games. Obviously, we have the back-to-back-to-back section titles, so that helps us a lot and motivates us.”
The Spuds will open up their Section 8 tournament on Wednesday, May 29 at Moorhead High School. Their opponent will be __.
The State Tournament begins June 11.
