Metro COG seeking public comment for new Heartland Trail

MOORHEAD, MINN. – F-M Metro COG is seeking public comment as part of a proposed extension of The Heartland Trail that would extend the trail from Fargo-Moorhead through Clay County.
Plans for the trail have been in the works for roughly a decade. The current proposed trails would connect to other state trails in Park Rapids.
Public comments so far have suggested proposed route changes, as well as possible locations for trailheads and water stations.
Dan Farnsworth with Metro COG says that while Minnesota has a great trail system, the West-Central part of the state is lacking in trails like this.
“There are no state trails in West-Central Minnesota. So Minnesota has a great trail network, but we don’t really have any in our part of the state. So this is a really key trail to have in our part of the state, and we’re looking forward to seeing it someday come to fruition.”
