Three young boys in North Dakota discover rare T. rex fossil

NORTH DAKOTA (CNN) — It’s not every day that you stumble across a T. rex fossil but that’s what happened to three young boys.

They were going for a hike in the North Dakota Badlands in July 2022 when they discovered the rare fossil.

The Denver Museum of Nature and Science says its team of paleontologists excavated the remains one year later.

The fossil belonged to a juvenile T. rex, estimated to stand 10 feet tall and weight 3,500 pounds.

Later this month, the museum is opening a temporary exhibit to display the find.
