Fake text tells voters Fedorchak quit U.S. House race, campaign will investigate

FARGO (KVRR) – Republican Julie Fedorchak’s congressional campaign will file a complaint with the Federal Election Commission following the distribution of a fake text message that claims Fedorchak has withdrawn from the race in the GOP primary.
The text with the phony message includes an image of Fedorchak being interviewed by a Bismarck television reporter during the North Dakota Republican State Convention in April. Fedorchak is discussing withdrawing from the convention endorsement, not the entire race.
The message includes faked references to several media outlets including KVRR, KFGO Radio and the Forum of Fargo-Moorhead.
Fedorchak Campaign Manager Sean Cleary says it’s still not clear where the texts originated. “We don’t know for sure,” Cleary said. “We will search the server” to find answers.
“These text messages are categorically false and we will be taking legal action against those responsible.”
When a reporter called the phone number that sent the text, a recording said “this call cannot be completed as dialed.”
Rick Becker, Cara Mund, Alex Balasz and Charlotte Mohr are also running in the GOP House primary.
