UPDATE: Bizarre Attempted Robbery in Fargo Involved “Online” Girlfriend
FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — Two people are in custody after a bizarre attempted robbery in Fargo Friday.
According to Fargo Police, a man was the victim of an attempted robbery at gunpoint involving a woman he thought was his online girlfriend Friday evening.
The attempted robbery occurred in a hotel room at the Expressway Suites on 17th Ave. S in Fargo. According to police, the victim came to Fargo to meet his online girlfriend who went by the name “Riy Alexander.”
According to court filings, the victim and “Alexander” were leaving the hotel room to eat. When the victim opened the door there was a man standing directly in the doorway holding a handgun. According to the victim, the man shook the gun, and told him he was going into the room. The victim shoved the man back and closed the door.
The victim said he believed the man was trying to steal his bag, which contained money. Shortly after this, “Alexander” left the room saying she “couldn’t handle this” and that she was going to her cousin’s house.
During an interview with the victim, officers were given a phone number for “Alexander” that was registered to Sariah Jennings, an 18-year-old Minnesota resident.
On Tuesday, officers received a tip from West Acres security that Jennings and another individual involved in the attempted robbery had returned to the store they had been shopping at.
Officers responded, and arrested Jennings and Jeremiah Norby, a 19-year-old Fargo resident.
Norby and Jennings were arrested for conspiracy to commit armed robbery. Norby was also arrested on charges of preventing arrest, conspiracy to manufacture or deliver marijuana and possession of cocaine.
Norby was previously arrested in relation to a series of burglaries in Fergus Falls last year.
Jennings has been charged in the attempted robbery, but charges against Norby are still pending.
Both Jennings and Norby remain in custody at the Cass County Jail. Bail has not been set in either case.
