Attorney General Releases 2023 North Dakota Crime Report
Report shows overall decrease; rise in crimes against persons
BISMARCK, N.D. (KVRR) – North Dakota Attorney General Drew Wrigley held a press conference to discuss the release of the 2023 North Dakota Crime Data Report.
The report, which categorizes crimes reported to police across the state, showed a marginal increase in so-called Group A Offenses, which include crimes like murder, robbery and drug violations.
According to the report there was a 0.1% increase of these crimes in 2023 from 2022, however the rate of these crimes per 100,000 people dropped by 0.5%.
The report shows that property crimes decreased in 2023 by 2.4%, while crimes against persons increased by 2.9%.
Wrigley said that he believes the increases have to do with the rate of recidivism in the state.
“There’s a bunch of crimes being committed. There’s an escalation in violent crimes. There’s an escalation in drug trafficking in this state. And a lot of that comes from recidivism. Repeat Offenders. Repeat Offenders. We’re going to be highlighting to people the nature of repeat offenses.”
Native American Reservations in the state chose not to share their data with the Attorney General’s Office for the 2023 report.
