Incoming UND hockey freshman drafted in first round of NHL Draft
LAS VEGAS (KVRR) – An incoming freshman for the UND hockey program was drafted with the 30th overall pick in the NHL Draft by the New York Rangers. EJ Emery was on the U.S. National Under-18 team where he was a dominant defender while also chipping in 16 assists in 61 games.
“Brad Berry, the entire coaching staff, the fans, the community and the players really made me feel at home,” said Emery on why he chose to go to UND. “The moment I stepped foot on campus it was a no brainer to go there. They develop great defensemen and I want to go there and win a national championship.”
Emery is also the second first round draft pick for UND as Sacha Boisvert was selected 18th overall by the Chicago Blackhawks.
