Legion Baseball: Fargo Post 400 Eyes Return to American Legion World Series

SINCE THE PETE TOURNAMENT, THE POST 400 STARS HAVE BEEN A TOP LEGION BASEBALL TEAM IN NORTH DAKOTA.
FARGO, N.D. (KVRR)–The Fargo Post 400 Stars legion baseball team has been on a roll. Head Coach Donn Bryant credits the players.
“We have great kids,” said Bryant. “We have 18 great kids on this team that play for each other rather than playing for themselves and they’re not arrogant. They just want to win and have fun and that’s what’s helped us you know, is having those kids.”
Since the Jim Petterson Invitational in Fargo the weekend of June 28 Through the 30th, the Fargo post 400 stars have looked like a completely different team. Entering The Pete, the Stars were 9-11 on the season. Eight games later, they owned a record of 17 and 11 winning all the games in the Pete tournament and the three games following.
The team says their key to success comes from playing a well-rounded game.
“I think our pitching is really caring us,” said Gunnar Majerus. “We have a lot of good pitchers dicing right now and a lot of strikes and then our hitting also… we’re hitting good when we need to”
Coach Bryant echos that.
“We got a pretty good bunch of kids that play really good defense,” said Bryant. “So, we tell them to just let them hit it and let us play and that’s what they’ve been doing. We got great outfielders and we got our infielders make plays all the time. So that’s the key is our pitchers throwing strikes. We got to, you know, produce runs, but they’ve been good at producing runs.”
The Stars made it to the Legion baseball World Series in 2021. Though, of course, the team would love to once again reach that level of success. Just playing their best baseball at the end of the summer is the goal.
“I just would like them to play their best baseball they can and see where it goes from there,” said Bryant. “If doing well in the state tournament is part of that, then so be it, but I just want them to play their best baseball at the end of the year. They’re a young team, so we just want to just keep getting better.”
Majerus believes this years team can achieve what that 2021 team did.
“I think we’re doing really well right now,” said Majerus. “When [the 2021 team] went [to the world series] they were like a .500 team. So, I think, you know, we’re right there and we can do that too.”
Whether the stars reach a state or regional championship is unknown right now. But one thing is for certain…this group is having a lot of fun trying to achieve it.
