Local 10-year-old dominates each sport she plays; off to play hockey in Paris
FARGO (KVRR) – Mihaila McField is a multi-sport star, competing in hockey, shot put and hammer throw. This 10-year-old has been dominant across these sports.
“They just make me happy. I’m good at sports, it’s just fun. I love winning.” said McField.
She will be representing North Dakota in an international series of hockey matches over in Paris, France. She will be playing on the boys squad and was the only one chosen from the state to compete. McField will be playing against tough competition that come from many different countries
In hockey, she plays on the boys team as a defender. Compared to other players who may like scoring more, she explains why she prefers playing defense.
“I love defense because I get to hit people too. Which is pretty fun. I get to make plays, I get to see the ice. It’s just really nice. I really love it.” said McField.
It’s not just her play on the ice that’s turning heads. Only recently the 10-year-old picked up shot put, and took bronze in the regionals which qualified her for Junior Olympics. Mind you, she just learned the sport and hasn’t developed the skill to do the spin with the shot put.
“So once I learn the spin I’ll probably, maybe win.” said McField.
While she focuses on the Paris hockey games and Junior Olympics, McField recognizes the opportunities before her to experience playing her favorite sport outside of North America.
“I’ve actually never played outside of Canada or America. So this will be a really cool experience with other languages, other food, other everything.” said McField.
McField will be playing hockey in Paris this week and then will be competing in the Junior Olympics AAU between July 29 through August 3rd in Greensboro, North Carolina.
