Moorhead’s Olivia Watson leads Bison Soccer to season opening win

La Crosse, WI (KVRR) – The Bison soccer program picked up a 3-1 win Thursday afternoon over the Viterbo V-Hawks in La Crosse, WI. NDSU was led by Moorhead’s own, Olivia Watson, who scored the first goal of the season and assisted on another in the win.

Early in the game, Watson scored the opening goal six and half minutes in thanks to an assist from Hannah Arnold. A minute late, the Bison went up 2-0 on the V-Hawks, this time with Devon Kavanagh scoring thanks to the help from Tyreese Zacher. Nearly through the midway point of the first half, NDSU went up 3-0 on Viterbo with Gabrielle Garrett scoring off the assist from Watson.

Payton Mulberry started in goal for the Herd, as the coaching staff is using the non-conference slate of games to evaluate the position and see who will take over. Hannah Stipp and Bella Washington also got playing time in the goal as well.

The Bison offense was unrelenting throughout the match, firing away 37 shots, with 14 of them on goal. But they were also aggressive, getting 16 fouls on the day.

NDSU now prepares for a Sunday afternoon game on August 18 against Green Bay. That game starts at 1 P.M.
