Back to School Brings School-Related Anxiety

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — With back-to-school coming up, Sanford Health wants to remind you to check on your kid’s wellbeing.

Whether you are preparing to start at a new school or begin a new year, kids can become anxious.

According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, two to five percent of kids can experience school-related anxiety.

Katelyn Mickelson a Licensed Psychologist at Sanford Health recommends that parents take their kids to their back-to-school events to know where their classrooms are and to get reacquainted with the space.

“You might feel anxious on your first day, but let’s think back last year. How did you feel on your second day of school, how did you feel by the end of year. So while you might feel a lot of anticipation anxiety today, it’s going to get better once you go, you face it, you’ll get through it and then you’ll feel even better the next day,” said Katelyn Mickelson.
