Potato Day Festival in Barnesville Celebrates 33 Years
BARNESVILLE, MN (KVRR) — Potato Day Festival is a celebration for not just your average potato but for people to come together and have fun. With various activities for the kids like bouncy houses, the street fair, and potato themed dishes it draws a huge audience from across the nation.
“I think the rodeo is probably my newest favorite thing. I also enjoy the water fights, the street fair, and the mashed potato wrestling is always interesting to watch,” said Missie Goheen, Executive Director of Potato Days.
Missie Goheen is the Executive Director for Potato Days and has helped put together the festival for the past two years. It’s a festival that has had years worth of history and celebrations for people to come together.
“This year there’s crepes and there’s so many things that they should try. Lots to take in but there’s a lot of entertainment on the main stage. Little Miss Tater Tot is fun to see too, all the little girls in their cute dresses.”
A few years prior the festival had also included Mashed Potato Wrestling. The community had enjoyed the wrestling event so much they brought it back again.
“Mashed Potato wrestling is for good times and getting into the potatoes and bring a friend and have a little bit of fun,” said Keil Jahr, Co-Head of Potato Wrestling.
While it is a sticky mess to get into, many were lined up to take part in sloshing into the pool of mashed potatoes.
The event has only just begun for these members but it’s a celebration that they will remember for years to come.
The Potato Day Festival will continue on Saturday, and more entertainment will be planned. For a list of the scheduled events visit their website.
