Recent Bomb Threats Have Cost The Community More Than The Last Year

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — In the last school year cost taxpayers over $446 million for deployment of officials to schools for situations such as bomb threats. Here in North Dakota it cost more than $103,000.

“North Dakota for some reason appears to be on the list. You already exceeded last year’s threats. You’ve already exceeded the cost of last year’s threats,” said Don Beeler, CEO of TDR Technology.

Don Beeler, the CEO for TDR Technology explained that they have gathered information of school threats across the nation and assisted in providing security. That security is in the form of a software called School Access Manager (SAM).

“We have a database of over 120,000 schools in the United States. And we maintain it and we look at their yearly budgets. We look at how many students they have all of those things.”

TDR Technology says that the last two recent bomb threats at Fargo South High School had cost taxpayers $115,834.90.

“Making sure that you aren’t going to have a lot of these types of threats that are preventable really helps the community a lot. You do not want this once a week, once every other week. Getting a fake threat and wondering if it’s real or not real.”

Beeler states that while North Dakota has yet to ask for their assistance on adding security to their softwares, they will hope to do so soon.

The bomb threats at Fargo South High School and along with other threats made to several businesses across town are currently under investigation with FBI officials.

Fargo Public Schools released a statement regarding the recent bomb threats stating:

“The safety and security of our students and staff is always our top priority. The Fargo Public Schools is constantly reviewing safety and security protocols to ensure the safety of our schools. As we continue with the 2024-25 school year, all of our schools will follow our established emergency response plans and protocols to keep our schools safe.”
