RedHawks Take 1-0 Series Lead; Defeat Sioux City 2-1
REDHAWKS TAKE GAME 1 IN A PITCHERS DUEL.
SIOUX CITY, I.A. (KVRR) –After 100 regular season games, the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks entered Wednesday’s game one of the American Association Miles Wolff Cup Playoffs with an 8-5 record against their opponent, Sioux City, in the regular season.
Lewis and Clark Park showcased a pitchers duel in game one. John Nogowski opened the scoring in the bottom of the first for the Explorers, but that would be the only run Fargo-Moorhead would allow the entire game. Orlando Rodriquez got the start for the RedHawks and threw 4.2 strong innings allowing just three hits and the one run. Davis Feldman took the middle part of the game and threw three hitless innings to set up the rest of the bullpen to finish it out.
Offensively, Fargo-Moorhead got their tying run in the 5th inning. Juan Fernandez hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Sam Dexter. In the 8th, the RedHawks had runners on 1st and 3rd with only one out. After Marcus Chiu went down swinging, it seemed the Explorers may get out of the inning unharmed. With Fargo native, Michael Hallquist at the plate with two stikes, Sioux City pitcher Zach Willeman threw a pitch in the dirt and Izzy Alcantara scored from third for the go-ahead run that proved to be the game winner.
The RedHawks take game one by a final score of 2 to 1. In all, the RedHawks scored 2 runs on 4 hits. Sioux City scored 1 run on 3 hits.
With a 1-0 series lead in this best-of-3 series, Fargo-Moorhead will have the opportunity to close out the series Friday night at Newman Outdoor Field. First pitch will be at 6:30 P.M.
The potential game three of this series would also be in Fargo on Saturday with another 6:30 P.M. start time.
