SheyWest owner announces closure; feels let down by city

WEST FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – SheyWest has been in their current location on 40th Ave. S in West Fargo since 2020.

During that time they have been trying to get a turn lane built in order to ease traffic into their parking lot.

“They went so far as to direct me to pull an excavation permit so I could do a turn lane in April of 2020, and then just never approved it. And I got an email back from the building department saying “We’re really sorry, but we don’t have an actual permit that fits this description, we’re going to have to deny your request, and that’s all we can say.”

Back in May, the City of West Fargo refused to discuss the issue citing violations to the Planned Unit Development on the property.

Kallias says she worked with the city Planning Commission to come to a compromise, and amend the Planned Unit Development.

“The Planning Commission put it forward four to one a couple of weeks ago, and they saw through all of the issues and said the city has an obligation and a mess to clean up, cause they’ve let us down.”

However, the City Commission rejected the new PUD, with Mayor Bernie Dardis saying he wanted to see the violations addressed first.

“I brought military people, I brought neighbors, I brought friends, I brought family members, I brought workers, and we sat in the crowd, and we had our voices stifled, because not a single commissioner would say “Is there anyone in the crowd who would speak on this issue.”

Kallias says that she isn’t asking for a handout, and just wants to provide the community with a great space.

“This is a really big issue, and it’s just little old me doing this as my business. I have 80 people that I employ with my husband throughout the town that I employ with my husband doing multiple things, and I don’t want them to have to find new jobs, they love their jobs. They’re happy here, we’re happy here, we’re just asking for a little bit of help and some change.”

In a Facebook post after the commission meeting, Kallias warned fellow business people to steer clear of West Fargo saying they hate you for your dreams and “want to see you fail.”

She says that she would be looking to sell the property.
