Demand growing for Amtrak expansion to Fargo

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — The push to expand Amtrak’s new Borealis passenger rail line across Minnesota is gaining steam.

Amtrak launched the Borealis Amtrak route between St. Paul and Chicago in May.

The route saw more than 18,500 passengers in its first month.

Brian Nelson with All Aboard Minnesota says that the Minnesota Legislature is looking to expand passenger rail, and that they’re working to make St. Paul to Fargo a top priority.

“Over the course of time, we’ve seen the dialogue change over how passenger rail can serve communities and connect urban and outstate regions very nicely. And take cars off the road, reduce highway maintenance. A cleaner and greener environment, all those things.”

Nelson says that anyone interested should reach out to their local representatives.
