Abortion protestors walk from Fargo to Red River Women’s Clinic as part of national rally
FARGO-MOORHEAD (KVRR) — Anti-abortion protestors and counter protestors both took to the streets on Saturday for A-Cross America Relay for Pro-Life rally.
The anti-abortion walk started at the Cathedral of St. Mary in downtown Fargo and headed down Broadway on their way to the Red River Women’s Clinic in Moorhead.
Once they reached their destination they were greeted by counter protestors playing music and triggering their car alarms.
After the walk, organizer Patrick Castle called the event a success.
“Just a couple days ago, a judge overturned the abortion ban in North Dakota. So what timing to be a source of encouragement today to be a light for life,” Castle said.
On Thursday, North Dakota State District Judge Bruce Romanick ruled the state’s current abortion ban as unconstitutional. North Dakota Attorney General Drew Wrigley released a statement criticizing the ruling.
Meanwhile, counter-protestors saw the walk as a performance.
“People seek abortion for a million different reasons and not one of them was responded to by this activity here today,” said counter protestor Hilary Ray. “We know what reduces the number of abortions. We’ve achieved that in previous years. It’s not banning abortions, it’s providing comprehensive, empirically-based, reproductive education, and ready and affordable access to dependable contraception. That would be a little more helpful than standing around and kneeling on the sidewalk. It achieved nothing.”
The A-Cross America Relay is set to finish in Overland Park, Kansas, on October 19th.
