Fargo Fire Department Station 5 Closed For Reconstruction
FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — Fargo Fire Department has suddenly and temporarily closed Fire Station 5 for reconstruction and renovation work.
The work comes after staff at the station noticed shifting and cracks on the building five years ago.
While they had been able to work and keep staff in, a recent engineering assessment determined the southern portion of the building must be demolished.
Contractors working on the facility will also upgrade the remaining sections of the building to ensure it is modernized and equipped for the future needs of the department.
The city has allocated $2.5 million for the project.
“The engineering and the testing that we go through when we test the soils, test the concretes, all of those things that are part of the construction process, will provide us with a structure that will last the city well into the future,” said Steve Dirkson, Fargo Fire Chief.
The fire station will be closed until August of 2025 and all emergency calls will be rerouted to surrounding fire stations and mutual aid with West Fargo Fire.
