(North Dakota Monitor) The North Dakota Department of Transportation will visit four tribal nations in the next two weeks to provide non-driver photo identification cards that can be used for voting.

The ID cards are for North Dakota residents who do not have a driver’s license. The ID card will be provided free for those 18 and older.

Department of Transportation staff will obtain photos and view documents at tribal locations. The paperwork will be processed overnight, and the Photo ID card will be mailed to residents within five days.

The DOT will be on site from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at these dates and locations:

  • Standing Rock Sioux, Monday, Oct. 7, at the Sioux County Courthouse, 303 Second Ave., Fort Yates
  • Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa, Tuesday, Oct. 8, at the Sky Dancer Casino, 3965 Sky Dancer Way NE, Belcourt
  • Spirit Lake Nation, Thursday, Oct.10, at The Blue Building, 816 Third Ave. N., Fort Totten
  • Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nation, Tuesday, Oct. 15, at the Northern Lights Wellness Center, 710 East Ave., New Town

To receive a non-driver photo ID, a resident must show:

  • A certified birth certificate, and, if applicable, a court-issued name change document — certified marriage certificate, divorce decree or adoption order.
  • Social Security card
  • Proof of physical address in North Dakota.

For questions about the photo ID events, call NDDOT at 1-855-633-6835.

The acceptable forms of identification for voting in North Dakota are: A North Dakota driver’s license; a non-driver state-issued identification card; a tribal ID or a tribal letter, and certificate from a long-term care facility.
