Exploring Indigenous Culture at Hjemkomst Center

MOORHEAD, Minn. (KVRR) — People got a chance to learn about indigenous people during a luncheon held at Hjemkomst Center.

They were given an “Indigi Bowl” that contained wild rice, buffalo meat, and veggie toppings.

The event, held by the Indigenous Association, featured Anishinaabe leader Ricky White.

He has over 22 years of experience as an Ojibwe language and culture teacher.

The event was an opportunity for the community to deepen its understanding of Indigenous history and culture while enjoying a delicious meal.

“The main goal of this event is to just increase awareness and understanding of indigenous culture, and also to have a day of just celebration of indigenous people in our area. It’s a really good day of celebration for folks because they can get together and share things about their culture and their identity with the broader community,” said Brandon Baity the Indigenous Association Executive Director.

Moorhead Human Rights Commission partnered with Indigenous Association to hold the event.
