League of Women Voters offers materials for voters not fluent in English

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – With only three weeks to go before election day, the League of Women Voters is working to make sure that everyone who can vote has the resources they need before they go to the polls.

This year along with their election guides in English, they have also published election guides in Somali and Arabic.

Board Member Carol Sawicki says that the League was contacted by groups representing new Americans about publishing their guides in other languages to help citizens who aren’t fluent in English.

She says that this was aligned with the League’s goal of making sure that everyone who can vote gets the opportunity to exercise their right.

“They have given it to their members, to their new Americans in their Arabic-speaking and Somali-speaking communities. And they’re excited about it because new Americans are excited about voting. That’s one of the things that they know they can do once they become naturalized.”

Polling stations in Minnesota will also have voting instructions available in multiple languages, and every voter has the right to bring a translator with them. For more information on how you can vote in this year’s elections you can visit vote411.org.
