Early Voting at Alerus Center in Grand Forks Brings In Record Numbers

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (KVRR) — Here at the Alerus Center voting has been running smoothly for voters to go in and out. With six days out to election day, voting in North Dakota has seen thousands of voters.

“We broke our record yesterday for the first day, 3,008 voters. And the line has not stopped at all today and we’ve gotten so many compliments about how fast the line is moving,” said Diane Fossum, Alerus Center Inspector.

Fossum says in the last election, about 2,000 voters cast ballots on the first day of early voting. This year, lines have not stopped growing. Fossum has been an Election worker for over twenty years.

“It went really well. You know it’s their understanding which I’ve been looking at the news to understand what the vote was for the measurements but it went good,” said Mona Bryant, Voter.

Voters who have questions about things like ballot measures can ask the judges to provide them with information.

“If they’re asking about the measures, we got papers sitting on by the judges. And they can take that to their polling booth and read about them and it’ll give them a better explanation,” said Fossum.

As of this afternoon, more than 14,000 ballots have been submitted in Cass County. The Secretary of State’s office says more than 48,000 ballots have been cast statewide.
