Anti-Chicken Ordinance Remains on Mapleton Books for Time Being
A 16-year-old brought a presentation to the city council meeting in an effort to get the rule changed, but was rebuffed on his first attempt.
MAPLETON, N.D. (KVRR) — McCoy Ferguson’s noble attempt to change the rules in his hometown to allow people to own chickens for personal use fell short at Mapleton’s November city council meeting.
The council commended Ferguson on his presentation and took the matter seriously, debating its relative merits for a good 10-15 minutes.
In the end, though, they determined that Ferguson had not shown a great demand for change from the citizens of Mapleton. They encouraged him to gather more evidence of support and come back to another meeting – which Ferguson indicated would now be the plan.
“I’m either gonna make a petition and go to some houses and get them to sign it, or I’ll just talk to them and see if they can come to the next meeting, see if I can fill this place with people who want it passed,” he said.
The next opportunity would come on December 10th. Mapleton holds city council meetings on the second Tuesday of each month.
