Sheriff identifies victim in hunting-related shooting near Moorhead

MOORHEAD, Minn. (KVRR) – Authorities have identified the man who was shot by a stray bullet from someone within his deer hunting party Saturday morning northeast of Moorhead.
Thirty-four-year-old Jace Srur, of Dilworth, suffered a gunshot wound to the head. The injury was considered life-threatening and non-survivable.
Deputies and a state trooper responded to the scene shortly before 8 a.m. Saturday.
Clay County Sheriff Mark Empting says the incident remains under investigation.
North Dakota Game and Fish Outreach Biologist Doug Leier says this tragedy just illustrates how you have to remain vigilant in all situations. “Once you squeeze the trigger, there’s no taking it back. And in any kind of hunting, anything from as small as dove hunting to as big as moose hunting, the same safety reminders are in place.”
Srur was airlifted to Sanford Hospital.
On Saturday, another man was shot in a hunting accident north of Perley, Minnesota.
The 37-year-old hunter had a single gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital with a non-life threatening injury.
