History Will Be Made in Class 2A Dakota Bowl: GF Red River Vs. WF Horace

GRAND FORKS RED RIVER AND WEST FARGO HORACE BOTH IN SEARCH OF THEIR FIRST STATE TITLE IN PROGRAM HISTORY.

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) –Two teams: Grand Forks Red River and West Fargo Horace. Both aiming to do something that has never been done in their program’s history: Win a state title.

“It would mean everything,” said Red River senior quarterback Pearce Parks. “First championship in school history. It has been a goal of ours for three-four years.”

The same can be said for the Horace Hawks.

“It would be awesome,” said Horace senior quarterback Taylor Stefonowicz.

Horace is in just its third varsity season.

Without a win in year one. A playoff win in year two. In year three, the growth continued as they take part in the Dakota bowl Friday.

“We were forced to mature fast,” said Stefonowicz. “It was definitely a shock that we had to go through. Just roll through the storm and hopefully we come out on top.”

As for Red River, it’s their first championship game appearance since 1987, and first Dakota bowl. Friday presents the opportunity to cap off their undefeated season with a title.

“It is the season we wanted so far,” said Parks. “We knew going into the season what kind of team we had with the guys we have and all the work they put in. In 11 games so far we have shown that and now we have one more.”

Regardless of who comes out on top Friday, one thing is certain: history will be made.

The Class 2A Dakota Bowl will kick off approximately 20 minutes after the 9-man championship awards conclude. That game begins at noon.
