University of Jamestown Receives Recognition For Suicide Prevention Program

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (KVRR) — The University of Jamestown has partnered with the Governor’s Challenge to help prevent suicide among service members, veterans, and their families.
The University has awarded over 90 continuing education units to licensed professionals.
The Governor’s Challenge has emphasized finding individuals who are at risk for suicide, providing care, and promoting safety.
With the nationwide rate of veteran suicide rising, programs like this are important according to Sarah Kemp Tabbut at the Fargo VA.
“College are a perfect place to start to train our young professionals in college to recognize suicide as an issue. How to recognize those warning signs, and then to offer especially professionals training on how to intervene when someone is in a suicidal crisis. To recognize those warning signs,” said Sarah Kemp-Tabbut, Community Engagement and Partnerships Coordinator with Suicide Prevention at Fargo VA.
The University of Jamestown plans to continue its initiative further into 2025.
