FARGO, N.D. – Shannyn Maack was responsible. She was performing a self-examination when she found a concerning lump, so she went straight to her primary care physician who performed a scan and did discover Stage 1 Breast Cancer.

Although she is facing a bilateral mastectomy and radiation, her chances to make it through remain good. However, both she and her husband lack health insurance. Knowing that, her friends immediately rallied to put together a fundraiser at Speck’s Bar.

“The emotions?” Maack replied incredulously when asked what emotions were going through her seeing such support from friends and loved ones.

“Ok, well – it’s called being really overwhelmed and super humbled.”

The silent auction featured items gathered from businesses and private individuals all throughout the community.

Maack said she was also happy to be able to use her visibility to encourage everyone to get screened regularly.
