Moorhead Native Matt Cullen inducted into U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame
CULLEN GRADUATED FROM MOORHEAD HIGH SCHOOL IN 1995 AND HAD A 21-YEAR PRO CAREER IN THE NATIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE.
PITTSBURGH, PA (KVRR) – Moorhead Native Matt Cullen was officially inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Wednesday night in Pittsburgh, PA.
Cullen won three Stanley Cups throughout his 21-year NHL career, including two with the Pittsburgh Penguins organization.
In total, Cullen played for eight different organizations. He is also one of just two American-born players ever to compete in 1,500 or more regular-season games in the NHL.
Retiring after the 2018-19 season, Cullen totaled 1,516 career games played in the regular season. He recorded 721 points career points on 266 goals and 465 assists.
During his induction ceremony, he thanked his family and mentioned one of his favorite memories of his playing career was returning to Minnesota to play with the Wild. He played in Minnesota from 2010-13 and the 2017-18 season.
Cullen is currently a minority owner and director of player development with the Fargo Force. His oldest son, Brooks, is a senior on the Moorhead Spuds hockey team and recently commited to Michigan State to continue his hockey career.
