Inmate faces more charges after allegedly stabbing officer with a pencil

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (KVRR/KFGO) — An inmate in the Grand Forks County Jail is facing additional charges after allegedly stabbing a corrections officer in the face.

Court records say 23-year-old Gavin Johnson was told he was being moved to a different cell, but refused and sat in a laundry basket.

When a corrections officer tried to remove Johnson from the laundry basket, Johnson stabbed officer above the left eye with a pencil.

He was in jail for allegedly trying to break into a Grand Forks apartment.

He is now also charged with aggravated assault with a weapon.
