North Dakota United Survey Show Residents Oppose Private Tuition Vouchers

BISMARCK, N.D. (KVRR) — North Dakota United, the state’s union for teachers, have released the results of a poll that says, overall, while North Dakotans are in favor of property tax reform, they are not on board with using public education money to fund tuition for private schools.

The poll was done by DFM Research in December and included 600 North Dakota voters.

Nearly 80% of those surveyed said they support universal free school lunches.

On the flip side, 68% said they oppose public money being used for private school tuition.

Only 10% believed a voucher program would benefit rural and urban families equally.

North Dakota United President Nick Archuleta says the survey offers legislators important insight on things North Dakotans want to see in public education.

With the legislature convening tomorrow at the state capitol, it’s good for them to understand what the people of North Dakota are thinking and what their expectations are of the people that represent them,” said Archuleta.

As far as who North Dakotans trust most when it comes to K-12 education policies, it’s teachers.

Fifty-seven percent of respondents said they trust teachers to do what’s right for North Dakota students.
