Freak Accident in McHenry County
The accident is still under investigation, but it appears that a man was killed while trying to watch his car be pulled from a ditch.
near BALFOUR, N.D. – Tragedy in McHenry County as the efforts of a Good Samaritan appear to have lead to a man’s untimely death.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol says on the evening of January 8th, 64 year old Corey Stevens was attempting to leave a driveway on 42nd St N in rural McHenry County.
However, Stevens’ 1989 Ford F350 went off the driveway and got stuck in a ditch.
74 year old James Ryan attempted to haul the truck out of the ditch with his 2002 GMC Yukon.
At one point, Stevens left his vehicle to check the progress of the hauling.
Ryan didn’t know this, kept hauling, and somehow Stevens got pinned between his Ford and a nearby structure.
First responders rushed to the scene, but Stevens succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital.
This incident is still under investigation, but Ryan is not facing any charges at present.
