Mobile Therapy Unit Bridges Access Gap

The retrofitted school bus can drive well outside the F-M metro area to deliver therapy where it's needed most.

WEST FARGO, N.D. – A few years ago, Beyond Boundaries Therapy had an issue. They were providing invaluable assistance to those that needed it in the Fargo-Moorhead region, but those in more rural areas proved frustratingly hard to reach due to reasons such as time commitment, inability to get days off work, and other institutional hurdles.

Looking for assistance, they turned to Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota’s BUILD Grant – then took that $5,000 and ran with it.

Or, rather, drove.

The clinic outfitted the bus to be a Mobile Therapy Unit, capable of driving well outside the F-M metro to make sure rural communities have access to occupational, physical, and speech therapy.

Blue Cross Blue Shield says they know they made the right call in awarding this money to Beyond Boundaries and the House of Everyday Learning.

“We really feel like Beyond Boundaries is helping in a lot of different areas there,” said Amber Blomberg of Blue Cross Blue Shield.

“Just being able to provide families in those rural communities the resources they need and deserve.”
