Walz Talks About Power Struggle And Offers Up New Budget With Sales Tax Cut
ST. PAUL (KVRR/FOX9) — Gov. Walz is talking about the power struggle going on in the House and saying Republicans do not have a quorum.
“This is a short term issue that will be corrected on the 29th that will be the will of the public and trying to use this vacancy to create a two-year majority that doesn’t exist is not the way to go about it.”
His comments came while he presented his budget proposal for Minnesota.
Walz is proposing cutting the statewide sales tax by point zero seven five percent.
If approved, it would be the first sales tax cut in Minnesota history.
The proposal also aims to combat fraud and curbs spending growth in programs that drive deficits.
Two years after seeing a record-setting projected surplus of $17.5 billion, state leaders project a $616 million balance at the end of the Fiscal Year 2026-27 biennium.
That’s $1.1 billion lower than previously forecast.
The budget must be passed by July 1.
